MODA TURNS 1 - SURVIVAL IN THE HEART OF QUEEN WEST

I love birthdays and anniversaries. With them come memories of good times, tough times, milestones and ultimately stories of triumph. So when I had the opportunity to celebrate a milestone with Queen West fashion boutique Moda, that being their first anniversary, I was more than excited. I was eager to see what this European flavored boutique offered in the way of high fashion. In the highly competitive Queen West fashion district only the strong survive. What did Moda offer?

The Space

The space is intimate, easily offering shoppers that quintessential boutique experience where great items are easy to find. Moda is adorned with elegant chandeliers that provide an aura of culture in an environment that already exudes warmth with its hardwood floors, soft lighting and friendly staff.

Moda carries a fairly large collection of two huge Dutch brands: "Vero Moda" and "Select Homme", a men's line branching off of Vero Moda, a Dutch company boasting 700 stores worldwide. The clothes are chic, high quality and cut across a variety of price points to suit your wardrobe tastes. The Vero Moda line can start in the $30 range for blouses and hit the $100+ mark for coats. For men's winter outer wear, the price may range anywhere from $55 for a waist length coat, to close to $300 for a wool winter coat.

The Experience

Ford Models were on hand for an in-store fashion show and I was impressed with both the quality and variety of looks that Moda presented. It is clear that Moda is making an appeal to the young professional with clothing that is highly stylish, current and affordable.

Moda and Danielle Iversen (That PR Thing) did a great job of making sure that friends, media guests and fashion industry insiders were well taken care of during their stay. An interesting array of drinks and hors d'oeuvres were served and DJ Kiki kept the mood just right with an eclectic blend of deep house, rare grooves and soul music. She's talented. Book her for your next event.

The mixing and mingling aspect of the evening was great also. I strike up a conversation with a Photographer named John, who I see at most media events in this town. He tells me that he shoots over 100 events each year and that "tonight is a night off." I marveled at this number from one man especially when TDot TV also covers more than 100 stories annually (80 video segments and another 40 or so blog write-ups). The difference is that we're an organization with staff. I guess "many hands make light work" as the saying goes. In any case, I had to toast Super Man and his alter ego Clark Kent on his night off.

Moda's first anniversary party was hot.

Moda is hot.

Whether you're an eclectic Queen West fashionista, a Bay Street Hipster, or someone simply looking for fashionable and high quality clothing at a reasonable price, Moda has something for you.

Raise a glass for Moda for reaching the one year milestone in arguably one of Canada's toughest fashion districts, where the notion of "the survival of the fittest" is a reality.

Kudos to Moda for reaching this milestone and being triumphant.

 SKINOVATION

302,000 surgical and non-surgical cosmetic enhancements were performed in Canada in 2003, a 24.6% increase from the previous year. In fact over $500 million dollars were spent in Canada that year on cosmetic procedures. Further, Ontario residents lead the way receiving 42% of procedures1.

Cosmetic procedures continue to rise in North America, not surprising since more and more cosmetic procedures are being offered. It's becoming more and more confusing for prospective patients to choose what cosmetic procedures are right for the, and more importantly to choose the right medical practitioner for your needs. So it's not surprising that Noah Kiani stepped up to the plate as Canada's first cosmetic consultant.

Noah Kiani, president and founder of Skinovation, is the face of the clinic. First offering cosmetic consulting services to people who are looking to improve and enhance. Although he doesn't look it, Noah has been working in the cosmetic field for over ten years. He prides himself on being well informed and offering unbiased advice about all aspects of surgical and non-surgical procedures available in North America.

Kiani's clinic, Skinovation, recently moved to a plush Yorkville office to accommodate new service offerings. The new office offers cosmetic consultation, laser treatments, spa and wellness treatments and more. In the coming months the office will even offer injectables to clients. So for those consumers looking to revitalize their skin and maintain their youth, but unsure of which, if any, procedures are right for them - Skinovation is the perfect place to start.
